A funeral service, celebrating the life of Don M. Chapman, 85, of Newark, will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Elder Jack Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
Don was born on March 10, 1932 in Newark, Ohio to the late Elder Maurice and Hazel (Claggett) Chapman. He passed away on January 28, 2018 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Don graduated from Newark High School, Class of 1950. Prior to retirement, he was a sales manager with Rockwell International for 35 years. Don started Boy Scout Troop #932 in Wilkens Corner in 1948. He was a member of the Katzenjammers history club and Rockwell Retirees. He was an amateur historian and story teller. He enjoyed reading, computers, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy V. (Pound) Chapman, whom he married July 22, 1950; children, Rodney (Cathy) Chapman, Donna (Michael) Paxton, Gary (Oveta) Chapman and Christine (Buster) Palmer; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dawn Marian Tinsley; one sister; and two brothers.
